In the past couple of years, trainers have become the ultimate and chicest of accessories, so much so that even the most luxurious of brands have launched their own collections of trainers.
For me, trainers have always been a core part of my shoe collection. I love buying trainers, I love their smell when they’re fresh out of the box and I love collecting them. I still remember getting my very first pair of Nike Air Max Plus when I was in school and how proud they made me feel. In fact, when I put an outfit together, I often first choose the trainers I want to wear and then I start thinking about what’s going to look good with them.
I always used to wonder why women developed this arguably questionable habit of pairing a super smart attire with trainers that should only really ever been worn at the gym that they would then switch to an uncomfortable of heels once their destination was reached. Yes, I know that walking in heels all day hurts and people suggest that when switching over to heels, women are meant to feel more powerful – but for me, trainers are synonymous to freedom.
I remember the days when I would go around in that fancy pair of heels only to come home either: a) early (because my feet hurt so much) or b) full of bruises because I couldn’t handle walking around in them. It felt frustrating and quite frankly I felt like an idiot missing out on life just because I had chosen to wear an uncomfortable pair of shoes (again!).
Every day I want to reach my full potential. A typical day for me can go from going to the gym to meeting a creative agency to catching up with a colleague for lunch to going to an event to linking up with friends after work. But most importantly I love being able to be spontaneous without feeling limited by how comfortable my outfit is (or is not).
I love how versatile I can be with my style when wearing trainers. To me, my trainers are more than just sportswear. Of course, they’re great for working out, but I also love pairing my Nike Beautiful x Air Huaraches – they’re the ones I am wearing in the photos- with a high-waisted pair of jeans and a Chanel blazer for example, or with an oversized jumper, mini skirt and a pretty little bag. My Huaraches are definitely some of the coolest trainers I own and I love how Nike has injected so much fun into the brand by collaborating with high-fashion brands and designers like Comme des Garçons, Kim Jones and Riccardo Tisci. My knowledge about Air max and the high street evolution of trainers has finally become relevant. In fact, my new Huarache Nike trainers feel like a second skin. They make me feel confident, assertive, powerful and excuse my French but… pretty fuc%*ng cool.
That’s probably why it’s so common now to see trainers everywhere from the catwalk to the boardroom. For me, Nike has been at the forefront of this great athleisure style evolution and developed the right type of trainers for women who want to walk/run/jump/fly comfortably all day and night without compromising their sense of style and chic.
Life is funny sometimes. When I first started blogging, I could never have imagined becoming a Nike ambassador for the Beautiful x Powerful campaign. And what’s even more ironic and powerful, is that I get to do it with one my best friends Alya AKA Moorizzla. We both started this blogging journey from scratch, having no idea what we were doing, but by taking any and all opportunities and giving our best shot each time, here we are being given a voice by one of the coolest international brands, alongside some seriously inspiring ambassadors.
And I think that’s what’s behind Nike’s latest campaign: Beautiful x Powerful. The ethos of the campaign is to ‘honour the athletes who pushed boundaries, changes attitudes and emerged victorious’. We’re lucky to live in a world where we can be whoever we want to be. I work in social media and every day I am amazed and inspired by the people I meet who are building their brand and empire from scratch.
It’s fair to say that this year has been challenging for many, myself included. As we’re all running, racing and trying to achieve our goals, we have essentially become athletes of our own lives. What’s truly powerful, in my opinion, isn’t so much the end result as much as the perseverance and resilience you develop as you overcome the obstacles thrown your way. Nothing comes easy, but the road to get to your wildest dreams is what makes you become powerful, it builds you up, it makes you want to go further, and ultimately push these intangible boundaries that you once had set up for yourself as there’s really no limit as to who you can become and what you can achieve.
I want to thank Nike for giving us the opportunity to share what Beautiful x Powerful means to us through this campaign. Check out the Nike Beautiful x Powerful must-have range, it’s got some pretty unique pieces.
And don’t forget, be kind, work hard & just do it. That’s what Beautiful Powerful really comes down to.
